Calvert City has a population of 2,566 people and has a total area of 13.9 square miles. The city was home to many industrial plants in the 1940s such as those for chemical manufacturing. These are usually located between Calvert City and the Tennessee River. This was because the Tennessee Valley Authority ordered the construction of the Kentucky Dam, which brought electric power to the city.
When it comes to outdoor recreation, Calvert City doesn’t disappoint. The city takes pride in offering some of the best outdoor recreational facilities in the entire southern region. Newcomers and visitors of the city can enjoy the great outdoors by visiting beautiful gardens and parks, which include Kentucky Dam Village State Park and Lake Barkley State Park. These places offer great opportunities to visitors and local to engage in sports and other activities. The areas near the lake proved to be great for fishing or boating trip with the entire family and you can also take a swim in the lake’s beautiful waters.
Land Between The Lakes is the third of the city’s state parks and provides playground facilities for younger children. The parks are a great place to hold a cookout or a picnic and other features such as a walking trail are present as well. Surely, the presence of these parks ignites an athletic spirit in the locals, which is proven by the frequent hosting of friendly baseball, soccer and football matches in them. Moreover, the city enjoys warm weather, which is perfect for such activities. It gets particularly hot in July when temperatures reach 90F that signals the use of air conditioners across the city. Winters get cold with January featuring the lowest temperatures around 27F.
