Belonging to the southern state of Kentucky, the city of Fulton lies in the Fulton County. Formally incorporated in 1871, the city now has a population of 2,445 people and is positioned on a total area of 2.9 square miles. The U.S. Route 51 runs through its downtown area and connects the city to various other towns, so your trip keeps you on the move.
The city of Fulton holds the title for being the Banana Capital of the World. You’ve probably heard the name of Chiquita, well it started as the United Fruit Co. which shipped bananas to New Orleans. The fruit was loaded onto railcars while the ice was used to preserve them for their trip towards the north.
The city of Fulton played a role in this process by having the only ice plant to facilitate the re-icing on the way to Chicago. The city was also the host of the International Banana Festival which took place from 1962 through 1992 where spectators would come to view the Banana Parade. The parade is where the 2000 pound banana pudding would be featured.
The city has many local eateries where visitors can take a break from their sightseeing and locals come to catch-up with friends.
